MIA no more.

So, here’s the deal.

The last few months have been quite the test. We lost my former mother-in-law…then my grandfather. I got a staph infection in my eye, had to move suddenly, and my ex-husband wound up in the hospital, getting laid off in the process. I started having issues with my landlord, and decided to move AGAIN.

I was emotionally and financially drained. All of my energy was spent on Miss *a*, both raising her, and figuring out a Christmas for her. I didn’t have time…both mental and physical, for the blog.

I hated it, but something had to give.

That said, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. I’ve found a great place to move to, and *a*’s birthday is fast approaching. I’ve been in the mood to craft and cook and read and write lately.

I’m happy again.

So, thank you for sticking with me through all this.

Here’s hoping 2012 is a wonderful time for us all.

Five Weeks of Giving

Welcome to the kickoff of the Five Weeks of Giving!

Yes, we’re running a bit behind. Between my eye infection, moving, getting the flu, and the holiday, it’s been sheer craziness around here.

BUT….we’re pushing forward.

The next few weeks will be filled with product reviews, and great giveaways from several different blogs. Be sure to check back daily for all the fun!

Speaking of giveaways, starting us off right is Hannah!

Stay tuned for more awesomeness!

Keep in mind that faith does not equal religion, necessarily. Faith is belief in something…could be a higher power, could be yourself. I’m slowly gaining my faith back, and it’s an amazing feeling.

Kicking the habit.

I’ve never mentioned this before on my blog, but I have a small confession to make.

I’m a smoker.

I was the odd teenager who waited until they were eighteen to start, and didn’t start because I wanted to look cool, or because my friend’s were smoking, or anything. I just woke up one morning and decided I wanted to be a smoker. So I bought a pack of Ultra Lights, smoked those for two weeks, then moved to Lights…another two weeks there, then on to full flavoreds. (That’s a misleading phrase, by the way.)

I smoked a couple of cigarettes a day, until I moved into my own place at twenty-one. Within a week, out of sheer boredom, I was up to a pack a day.

I’m now thirty-one. You do the math.

And now, with all the stress from my grandpa dying and having to moving and just…life throwing a bunch of stuff at once, I’m up to two packs a day.

I don’t want to do this for the rest of my life. I have enough concerns about cancer, having lost both my father and maternal grandfather to colon cancer, and the fact that my mother and most of my maternal female relatives have had cervical cancer.

I think it’s time to do something about it.

I’ll be speaking to my doctor about my options, but I also thing I’m going to buy electronic cigarettes. I know that I won’t be able to quit without help, but it’s time.

Kitchen

Guest post written by my buddy Keith Kramer

Ever since we got Wildblue, I have really been inspired in the kitchen. I have always loved to cook since I used to spend summers with my grandmother. She was the absolute best cook that I ever knew. Now, I have inherited all of her cookbooks. I have cooked completely through them. Now that I have satellite internet I have been able to find oodles and oodles of new recipes to try. I have cooked everything from spicy Mexican enchiladas with mole to white Coq au vin. I like to use the internet to learn new techniques too. My favorite cooking website, cooks.com has tutorials to show you how to do just about anything and everything that you would ever want to learn how to do. I also like that the website reviews actual cooking utensils. It is really helpful when I want to order a new thing to work with in the kitchen, now I have access to what everyone else is saying about it. It is very helpful.
